Orvieto, which overlooks complitely the fluvial valley of the Paglia river, rises over a tuffaceous rock at 325mslm. This majestic cliff, originates from the intense vulcanic activity of the Volsino system, testified by the large crater of the vulcanic lake of Bolsena, the biggest in Europe. Besides the violent beauty of the nature in this area, that among the vulcanic part has also thermal water sources, waterfalls and breathtaking sightseens, Orvieto is famous also for its history. First the Pontificiae Courts and the Miracolo Eucartistico di Bolsena, then for the undisputed military power in the XIIIth and XIVth century, that lead to the rise of the city both in prestige and in its own architecture, with the built of beautiful Monuments and Buildings. Beside the well-known Cathedral, shine bright in the orvietan portfolio the beautiful Pozzo di San Patrizio, il Pozzo della Cava and all the Orvieto Underground, la Necropoli Etrusca, il Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, il Museo Faina, il Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo e la Chiesa di San Giovenale in the medieval quartier.
